Causeway smashes Construction eTrading barriers

Causeway Technologies, a leading supplier of software solutions to the construction industry, has today announced that their e-Trading solution, Causeway Tradex is managing in excess of 2.5 million transactions per annum, exchanging a total of over £1bn of transactions.

At the heart of all business operations lay the sourcing, procurement and administration of materials, plant and service items. Handling high volumes of paper transactions such as orders, invoices and despatch notes using traditional methods often results in numerous man-hours spent re-keying, checking, reconciling and archiving documents.

Causeway Tradex allows supply chain partners to exchange electronic trading documents between their existing finance and procurement systems. By offering seamless integration with existing ‘back office’ applications, Causeway Tradex can be readily adopted without the need to compromise an organisations corporate IT strategy. Once connected companies are able to trade quickly and simply through a scalable and flexible integration hub that supports multiple document types and business processes.

Duncan Speight, Tradex Business Development Manager comments, “The volume of transactions being handled through Tradex is proof that the construction industry is now starting to recognise the benefits of electronic trading. Initially there has been a general nervousness towards eTrading initiatives, however once organisations understand the simplicity of the Tradex service and start to calculate the potential cost and time savings, the decision to join becomes very straight forward.”

Simple, rapid installation means the benefits of connecting to Causeway Tradex can be achieved in a matter of days, instantly providing secure e-commerce access to users throughout the supply chain. Causeway Tradex customers are reporting a reduction in the cost of processing invoices by up to 63% per transaction in comparison with traditional methods with handling times reduced by up to 50%.

Andrew Haworth, Supply Chain Director, Amec Design & Project Services summarises, “Put simply, handling invoices electronically through Tradex saves Amec 50% of the cost and 50% of the time previously incurred.” whilst John Foster, IT Manager at GAP Group adds, “The cost per invoice has reduced from £12 to £4.40 with a typical reduction in handling time from 8 to 4 days, it’s without doubt a huge saving in time and cost.”

The Tradex customer community is impressive and already includes many of the industries biggest names including Sir Robert McAlpine, Taylor Woodrow, Morgan Sindall, Amec, Alfred McAlpine, Aggregate Industries, CEMEX, Tarmac, Hanson, GAP Group, Speedy Hire, HSS, Hewden Stuart, Greenham Trading, Jewson and Travis Perkins to name but a few. The growth of the user base is organic with each customer bringing more supply chain partners to the service.
