Causeway Sponsor London Wasps Apprentice Scheme

Causeway, the long term supporter of rugby union’s European champions, London Wasps has agreed to sponsor the Wasps Apprenticeship Scheme which helps develop the rugby players of the future working with local schools.

The apprenticeship scheme is a partnership between London Wasps and the Rugby Football Union. The scheme identifies school age players who have the potential to play professional rugby and offers them professional coaching and training along with academic support for their senior school education at the neighbouring Twyford Church of England High School in Ealing.

Rob Smith, London Wasps Academy Manager explains what the scheme sets out to achieve,
“The newly introduced apprenticeship scheme has quickly become the desired development pathway for all talented young players with aspirations to follow a career as a professional rugby player. Further to this the scheme provides excellent experience and insight for those wishing to pursue other careers closely aligned to professional sport, all this alongside the safety net of a academically high achieving school. The scheme is Government backed and driven by the Rugby Football Union. London Wasps are investing heavily in the success of this venture to provide the stars of the future.”

Ian McGeechan, Director of Rugby at London Wasps comments on the scheme, “The apprenticeship scheme is a fantastic opportunity for the lads. To work in such an exciting environment with top class facilities and coaching can only inspire and improve an aspiring young player. We are very grateful to Causeway for their support and sponsorship of the scheme.”

Causeway CEO Phil Brown adds “Causeway has always been a keen supporter of the club having previously been Stadium sponsors.  We are happy to be involved in this highly important initiative, particularly as our sponsorship helps Wasps offer opportunities to youngsters who might otherwise have missed out. Ultimately we hope that the apprenticeship scheme will bring more players like Tom Rees to the game in the future.”

London Wasps Club Captain, Lawrence Dallaglio concludes “London Wasps is a great club for any aspiring young player. I came here as a teenager and still consider it home today.  With the support of Wasps and Causeway I am sure the apprentices will have a part to play in the future of this great club”
