Having experienced significant growth in the last three years, leading contractor R&W Civil Engineering has realised the need to further enhance the commercial control of their highways projects and optimise the operational management of their workforce.

R&W has selected Causeway’s Highways software suite to manage all aspects of their business from tendering and estimating through contract delivery to final account. The Causeway solution encompasses budget and cost management, valuations and CVRs, workflow and document management, accounting and business intelligence reporting - providing a highways contracting organisation with a complete solution to their business requirements.

Andy Theobald, Managing Director of R&W explained: “Causeway demonstrated in-depth knowledge and experience of the highways industry both within their organisation and their customer base. We share mutual customers, which opens up an exciting opportunity to integrate more closely with our clients, thereby positioning R&W as a forward thinking partner that is easy to work with.
Aaron Drury, R&W IT Manager added: “We evaluated our options carefully and Causeway stood out for a number of reasons. Generic construction industry software products are accounting-led and not focused on the commercial and operational requirements of a contracting business, which is where R&W’s profits are won or lost. The Causeway solution is proven within our sector, and perhaps more importantly, their people are highways industry professionals - which was evident in their detailed understanding of our needs and challenges.

R&W delivers a wide range of civil engineering services and is a primary supply chain partner to organisations operating Highways Agency contracts. One of R&W’s largest and most established customers is EM Highway Services (EM) who are currently managing Highways Agency Areas 1, 3, 9, and 13 and top the Highways Agency StART league tables. With EM having used the Causeway solution for a number of years there is now an opportunity to further integrate systems within the supply chain, eliminating manual processes for the sending of work and application for payments.

Causeway Chief Operating Officer James Atkinson commented: “With Highways England now replacing the Highways Agency and forecasting an £11billion investment in major roads over the next five years the opportunity for growth within the supply chain is significant. With such a substantial wave of work forecast, organisations need to identify new ways of working to enable sustainable growth and unlock operational benefits. Technology and IT is an enabler to make this happen and I am delighted that R&W are leading the way in this market.
