Kent County Council upgrades to CausewayOne Network Essentials to digitalise its streetworks and traffic management, streamline TTRO processing, and prepare for D-TRO compliance.
Kent County Council, one of the UK’s largest local authorities, manages an extensive and complex road network that sees over 10,000 emergency closures every year. A long-standing user of CausewayOne Network (formerly Causeway one.network), the council has relied on the platform for years to plan, coordinate and communicate roadworks and traffic management across the county.
Driving digital efficiency
With the Department for Transport’s D-TRO initiative on the horizon, Kent saw the opportunity to get ahead — investing in a more connected, digital approach to traffic management.
By upgrading to the Essentials package, the council is bringing all traffic management activity into one connected platform. The move replaces several manual, time-consuming processes with a single, automated workflow for planning, approving and publishing road closures and TTROs.
The council’s Street Works and Network Management teams can now:
- Plan and manage TTROs digitally through the TTRO Hub, reducing hours of rekeying data manually
- Access 90+ live operational layers — from Section 58 restrictions to public transport routes — for a complete, real-time view of the network.
- Publish clearer public information through integrated Content Management and Signage modules, helping residents stay informed and reducing inbound queries.
- Collaborate across teams and share accurate data instantly, improving productivity and decision-making across departments.
This proactive approach positions Kent among the first authorities to fully embrace digital network management, improving day-to-day efficiency while preparing for the national shift towards D-TRO.
“Kent’s upgrade is a great example of proactive digital leadership,” said Richard Adams, Business Development Manager at Causeway. “This wasn’t just about complying with the DfT’s D-TRO mandate; it was about seeing the value of digital transformation and the efficiency gains that come with it. By upgrading, it gives their teams more capability, visibility and control — all while continuing to deliver value for residents.”
What's next
With Essentials now in place, Kent County Council will begin onboarding to the TTRO Hub. The council’s teams will also have access to ongoing product training and onboarding support to ensure smooth adoption and full readiness.
Looking ahead, Causeway will continue to work with Kent to optimise coordination, automate processes and explore future integrations across the wider Causeway ecosystem.
A forward-thinking investment
Kent’s decision to upgrade demonstrates a clear commitment to innovation and smarter network management. By unifying its workflows under a single, future-ready solution, the council is leading the way in delivering faster, more efficient and more transparent highways operations.
