What are Digital Traffic Regulation Orders?

D-TRO, or Digital Traffic Regulation Orders, is an initiative by the Department of Transport (DfT), focused on digitising all Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs). The next phase of this project, mandating all new TROs and TTROs to be produced and shared in the correct digital format, is currently slated for summer 2025.
 
While legal orders can still be issued through traditional methods, all traffic orders will need to be created digitally and shared via API to the DfT's centralised repository. This critical initiative paves the way for smarter traffic management and lays the foundations for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs),
