Flannery is one of the UK’s leading plant hire companies, supplying machinery and skilled operators to major infrastructure and construction projects. With a reputation built over 50 years and a client base that includes many of the country’s largest contractors, Flannery is a trusted partner on some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile schemes.

A key part of their value is not just providing certified personnel – but ensuring those operators work to Flannery’s own high standards. At peak, the business supports over 1,500 operators and manages operations across nine depots.

In early 2024, faced with growing volumes of field assessments and internal admin, Flannery rolled out CausewayOne Digital Tools to bring consistency, visibility and control to its workflows. A year later, the solution has transformed how processes are tracked, shared and completed — reducing admin, improving visibility, and putting the business fully in control.

The Challenge

Before adopting CausewayOne Digital Tools, several key workflows at Flannery relied on email trails, spreadsheets and paper-based documentation — including field assessments and internal admin tasks. There was also a legacy form builder used in pockets. These processes were inconsistent, hard to track, and time-consuming for site and office teams.

“There was a real barrage of emails just to get simple things done – from IT requests to onboarding. We needed a better way to manage these workflows across our depots.”

Tara Cooney, Business Performance Manager at Flannery

The training team faced similar challenges.

Flannery’s in-house trainers assess operators on site to ensure they’re not just qualified — but safe, competent and efficient with specific types of machinery. But returning forms to the office and logging outcomes was slow and inconsistent.

“CausewayOne Digital Tools gives us the autonomy to create our own Flannery training assessment forms and utilise the platform to share these with our trainers and training teams to streamline workflows."

Tara Cooney, Business Performance Manager at Flannery

The result was slower onboarding, reduced visibility into operator performance, and a lack of consistency across depots — all of which created unnecessary admin pressure at a time when the business was growing fast. Something needed to change, and the business knew it.

The Solution

In March 2024, following a short review of solutions on the market, Flannery deployed CausewayOne Digital Tools to digitise its operator observations and internal admin forms.

With CausewayOne Digital Tools, Flannery built a tailored set of mobile-friendly forms for both field and office teams — giving trainers a simple way to record operator performance on-site, while enabling support teams to track IT and HR requests in real time.

Flannery's trainers now complete evaluations on mobile devices using custom digital forms. These sync directly with office systems, giving the business live visibility into field activity — and reducing delays in performance tracking, support and upskilling.

At the same time, the internal team has built digital workflows for onboarding, IT hardware requests, and leaver checklists. These replaced informal email chains with structured, trackable requests — cutting confusion, logging activity, and enabling a clear audit trail.

Flannery has also integrated CausewayOne Digital Tools with its existing Syrinx plant management system, enabling contract and personnel data to sync automatically between platforms. This integration ensures that key information - such as customer details and operator assignments - is pulled directly into relevant forms, reducing duplication, speeding up data entry, and keeping records aligned across systems.

"We’re now in complete control. With CausewayOne Digital Tools we can edit forms ourselves, respond to business needs quickly, and push updates straight out to the trainers. It’s easy for them to use — and so easy for us to manage.”

Krishan Patel, Data Analyst at Flannery

The Outcome

Since rolling out CausewayOne Digital Tools in March 2024, Flannery has completed over 950 digital forms across operator assessments, onboarding, leaver checklists and IT requests — creating a single, consistent workflow platform for its entire business.

These improvements have been transformative across multiple teams:

  • Up to 20 hours a day saved, by reducing manual admin, email chasing and rekeying

  • Faster onboarding and training processes, with visibility from depot to head office

  • Real-time oversight of operator assessments, feeding directly into upskilling

  • Self-service form control, eliminating delays from IT or third-party developers

"I would say that across the various teams we are easily saving up to 20 hours every single day — across onboarding, IT and training. It’s taken a huge load off our admin.”

Krishan Patel, Data Analyst at Flannery

CausewayOne Digital Tools is already being used across Flannery’s nine depots, supporting operations that range from field competency checks to back-office equipment tracking. With this success, the team is now exploring how to bring even more workflows into the platform - extending the same speed, structure and visibility into other parts of the business.

"Ultimately, it has given us more control to really streamline how we operate. It’s simple to update forms, push changes, and collate data capture automatically — and that's created efficiencies across the board, and also enhanced visibility.”

Tara Cooney, Business Performance Manager at Flannery

CausewayOne isn’t just a tactical tool for Flannery — it’s becoming a strategic platform to scale smarter, stay compliant, and free up teams to focus on what really matters.
