Moving Traffic Enforcement
Category: -
Duration: 2 days, with each session lasting for two hours

With the introduction of the remaining parts of Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act, authorities in England will soon be able to apply to enforce many moving traffic measure themselves under civil powers. These include box junctions, banned turns, bus and cycle lanes, bus gates and pedestrian zones.
Whist London authorities have had similar powers for many years, these changes are important for them too as they allow some additional measures to be enforced and change the wording used on enforcement correspondence.
This introductory course gives full coverage of the changes and prepares authorities for what they need to do if they are considering applying for a designation order to undertake civil MTE.
- What are the changes?
- Government statutory and other guidance
- What signs and markings does it cover?
- What’s new for London authorities?
- Required steps in applying for an MTE Designation Order
- Choosing sites to include
- Checking your signs, lines and TROs are compliant end enforceable
- How to conduct a consultation and what it should cover
- Considering the consultation responses
The course will be delivered by Simon Morgan, chair of the Institute of Highway Engineers panel for traffic signs, who had been involved with training TPT staff on moving traffic enforcement in Wales.

Sign Structures and Passive Safety - what's new
Category: -
Duration: 2 days, with each session lasting for two hours
Upcoming dates: Please enquire
Location: Online
Are you wondering what the expanded (2021) Sign Structures Guide contains, and what has changed? Have you picked up on changes to Highways England and other standards? This course for non-specialists brings you up-to-date whether or not you have attended one of our previous sign structures courses.
With the need to specify safe but economic sign supports, often with the need also for passive safety, many designers of traffic signs would welcome more guidance on the structural aspects.
Delivered by Simon Morgan editor and co-author of the Sign Structures Guide and chair of the BSI committee for UK traffic sign standards. This course is for non specialist and covers the basic theory of sign support and foundation design and how to apply the new standards in practice.
- A brief introduction to the subject followed by an update on the changes in:
- 2021 IHE Sign Structures Guide
- 2020 revision of Highways England minor structures standard CD 354
- 2019 revision of the passive safety standard BS EN 12767
