Based in Southampton, Solent Streetworks is a family-run consultancy specialising in street works project management and permitting.

Founded by Managing Director Andrew Waight and now jointly led with his wife, Jodie Waight, the company supports clients across telecoms, utilities and construction — managing everything from planning and permitting to compliance and traffic management.

By combining deep industry expertise with modern digital tools like CausewayOne Network (formerly Causeway one.network), Solent Streetworks helps clients deliver safer, faster and more compliant works.

The challenge

Managing street works across different local authorities means having access to reliable, up-to-date information about the road network.

As an SME, that accuracy is vital. With local authorities tightening up on permit compliance and Section 74 overruns, Solent needed one clear view of the network to plan confidently, back up decisions with data and protect clients from costly fines or delays.

“Accuracy and efficiency are everything. Without CausewayOne Network, it would make things a lot more difficult — you’d almost be going in blind.”

Andrew Waight, Managing Director, Solent Streetworks

The solution

Andrew has used CausewayOne Network since day one and the platform is as essential as any other core business tool. With real-time data on every road in the UK, it gives users instant access to USRN data, clash detection capabilities, historical records up to 10 years back, and real-time visibility of all works across the network.

This depth of data makes CausewayOne Network the most complete planning solution of its kind in the UK. Additionally, the data is trusted by over 120 highway authorities in the UK, which is why streetworks providers like Solent rely on it as their single source of truth for compliance and collaboration.

Unlike free tools that are often slow or unreliable, CausewayOne Network is fast, intuitive and built to keep teams working smoothly. “It’s secure, quick, and I can log in from anywhere, even when I’m out on inspections or surveys,” Andrew says.

The real-world results

Since making CausewayOne Network part of its everyday operations, Solent has seen clear results for their clients:

  • Zero Section 74 overruns in eight years of trading
  • Over £100k in charges reduced or waived on behalf of clients
  • Dozens of Fixed Penalty Notices avoided through data-backed evidence
  • Faster, more transparent coordination with local authorities

Andrew recalls two notable examples:

“We had a £9,000 overrun reduced to £250, and another £65,000 charge negotiated down to £3,000. CausewayOne Network gives us the evidence to stand our ground and protect our clients.”

Working with a major alternative network fibre provider, Solent also used CausewayOne Network to help the client make more strategic investment decisions. By mapping competitor activity and identifying areas of existing coverage, the team was able to advise their client to avoid unnecessary overbuild and redirect investment to areas lacking connectivity.

“Sometimes clients plan to go into an area without realising a competitor is already there,” explains Andrew. “By checking on CausewayOne Network, we can stop them wasting resources and focus where coverage is missing.”

Going the extra mile

When Jodie joined Solent as an Office Manager, the business transformed into a true family operation, bringing together industry know-how with the flexibility and personal service that set them apart.

"We can tailor the business to our clients' needs with a personal touch that's essential," Andrew explains. "Flexibility is a huge part of what we offer."

For Jodie, who joined from outside the industry, she found CausewayOne Network intuitive from day one. She now uses it every day to:

  • Cross-reference work locations before applying for permits
  • Check for clashes and Section 58 restrictions
  • Monitor for defects and failed inspections
  • Run tailored reports for clients showing all their works, upcoming phases, and any issues

Their expertise also extends beyond telecoms — from coordinating major city-centre demolition projects, such as the former Debenhams redevelopment in Southampton, to advising on complex traffic management schemes across the South Coast.

What’s next?

As demand for new infrastructure grows, Solent Streetworks is branching into EV charging, water and gas projects, and exploring new markets. "We don't just do permits. We also supply utility stats and traffic management plans. We're more than just a streetworks company; we're a project management company."

Through it all, CausewayOne Network stays at the heart of every project, helping Solent deliver confident, compliant and cost-effective results every time.
