The SBTi has approved Causeway Technologies near-term science-based emissions reduction target, confirming alignment with international standards for climate action.

Causeway had committed to reduce:

  • Absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.4% by 2032 from a 2024 base year
  • Scope 3 GHG emissions 58.14% per GBP value added within the same timeframe

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.

Causeway CEO Paul Devlin said: “Construction plays a huge role in shaping the world around us, and it carries one of the biggest environmental responsibilities. As a technology partner to the industry, we know it’s responsible for around 40% of global emissions, so change must start with how we build.

That’s why we wanted to set an example for others in our industry by committing to the standards set out by a world leading organisation such as the SBTi. It reflects our commitment to working alongside our customers to improve the cost and environmental impact of construction and our drive to be a positive part of the change our industry needs.”

Emma Mulqueeny, Vice President of ESG added, “SBTi validation is an important milestone in Causeway’s sustainability journey and reflects the progress we’ve made in putting sustainability at the heart of how we operate and innovate. It’s a shared responsibility that shapes the choices we make every day.

We know this matters to our customers, and they’re looking for partners they can trust to support them in delivering real progress. This validation reinforces that trust and strengthens our role in helping them build better outcomes for their business and the environment.”

The construction sector has a vital role to play in tackling the climate crisis. According to the latest science, limiting global warming to 1.5°C will require deep, rapid emissions cuts across every industry. SBTi validation represents a clear step in aligning with that goal and supporting the shift to more sustainable ways of working across the built environment.
