The DfT's 2024 road casualty report shows 128,272 people were killed or injured on British roads — a 3.7% reduction on 2023. Causeway's free CollisionMap tool has been updated with this latest STATS19 data, allowing anyone to search road collision statistics by postcode across Britain.

Each autumn the Department for Transport releases the data on road traffic collisions for the previous year. At Causeway, we quickly load this data into our free interactive road safety mapping tool, CollisionMap. This was developed originally by Buchanan Computing, now part of Causeway, and designed to improve road safety throughout Britain by allowing searches for any locality or postcode area.

The DfT's 2024 annual report shows for a second year running a welcome reduction in the number of people killed or injured on British roads. The number for 2024 was 128,272 deaths and injuries, still an appalling figure and utterly devastating for those involved, but nevertheless a 3.7% reduction on 2023.

Bigger reductions were evident in Wales and London, doubtless due at least partly to the widespread introduction of 20 mph speed limits. In Wales, this is evident from the impressive drop of nearly 21% in the combined total on 20 and 30 mph roads. However, this has only led to an 8.0% reduction in casualties on Welsh roads as a whole between 2023 and 2024, which was just beaten by an 8.7% reduction in Greater London.

How to search road collision data by postcode in the UK

Whilst DfT has recently released collision analysis tools of its own, Causeway’s free CollisionMap is unique in offering the following in relation to the 2024 and earlier data:

  • Compare region, council area and postcode to show where the collision risk is highest and those roads that are safest.

  • Search by postcode to reveal percentage change in road collisions year on year

  • Show data adjusted for population density

  • Pinpoint accident hotspots using heatmaps in particular postcodes and provide visualisations down to specific roads and exact locations.

CollisionMap now features the latest DfT STATS19 collision data for 2024 and data is available back to the beginning of 2011.

Bespoke Collision Systems

In addition to the free CollisionMap, Causeway offers a unique detailed data processing and analysis package AccsMap for local authorities and the police.  This can be linked to cloud-based systems making more detailed information available within the authority and to the public. These are some of the systems Causeway provides and maintains:
