When the Department for Transport announced its new small wild animals warning sign – affectionately dubbed “Holly the Hedgehog” – Buchanan Computing (now part of Causeway Technologies) responded in record time. The new symbol was added to Causeway SignPlot within just 30 minutes, ensuring designers and engineers could access and use the updated sign without delay.
The announcement has not yet gone out to subscribers to the DfT TAL (Traffic Advisory Leaflet) list, but appeared today in a DfT press release. By 10.00am the accurate symbol, good enough for sign manufacture was on our website, ready for Causeway SignPlot users to download.
How was this feat possible? Well only because Buchanan Computing (now part of Causeway Technologies) had helped DfT with the digitising of this symbol, so had it ready to release. DfT had determined the shape of the symbol (and indeed its name), but our team were responsible for translating the CAD drawing into a solid colour image, suitable for exporting to EPS format for sign manufacture and for publishing.
