Fileturn's Journey to Digital Labour Management
Fileturn has supplied high quality interior fit-outs, refurbishments and construction services to a wide range of high profile clients for more than 30 years. The business provides Principal Contractor services across the UK market place, in the most demanding of sectors such as hospitality, leisure, banking and retail.
As Fileturn grew they realised that they needed to invest in a biometric system to move the business forward to become more of a slicker, professional organisation that had more control and management of the workforce. Fileturn completed a procurement process and chose the Causeway Donseed solution.
“One of my first tasks when I joined Fileturn four years ago, was to look at how we managed agency workers” explains Fileturn’s Health & Safety, Environmental and Compliance Manager, Richard Turpie.
“The flexibility of using labour agencies is crucial for us as it allows our team to balance the risk and reward of a construction project. Of course the challenge for any contractor using agency workers on site is the unknown and skills is often the big unknown. What was once a very manual process, prone to human error and inaccuracies, is today fully automated by using Causeway Donseed."
With the cloud-based Causeway Donseed solution, Richard now keeps data real-time on all of the labour agencies that Fileturn employs within the system, including information on the qualifications held by operatives, projects the agency has helped to deliver, hours worked and site induction details.
Although cost control was not the primary driver behind Fileturn’s decision to turn to the Causeway Donseed biometric solution, there has been a significant financial impact in addition to the admin savings.
“The Causeway Donseed biometric solution gives us significantly better control of labour costs which allows us to be more competitive. We can pull the timesheet summary report from the online system for the previous week every Monday and advise our agencies based on these hours per person for each project. I would say over the years this has resulted in labour savings across the board.”
