Causeway has been shortlisted in the ‘Water Visionary’ and ‘Software Solution Provider of the Year’ categories in the New Civil Engineer (NCE) TechFest Awards 2019.

Both Causeway’s Flow and SmartTools solutions have been shortlisted in the ‘water visionary’ category at this year's NCE event. The Flow entry illustrates how CGS Civils use of Flow resulted in the seamless, fault-free building, editing, and modelling complex networks of several hundred houses right down to a single dwelling. Chris Slade, Managing Director, CGS Civils says: “since adopting Flow as part of our drainage design process we have noticed a marked improvement in our output and efficiency. With Causeway’s Flow solution we have been able to undertake projects that we previously avoided as they were too labour-intensive creating a significant difference to our bottom line.”

Flow is a fresh hydraulic modelling software for the design and analysis of stormwater drainage networks and the design of foul drainage networks. The integrated Flow solution uses the Modified Rational Method for sizing any conveyance system and the state-of-the-art 1D SWMM5 engine for hydraulically analysing storm drainage systems. Flow enables engineers to streamline design workflows from initial outline to detailed design for utmost productivity. For more information regarding Flow click here.

The SmartTools entry highlights how PUNCH Consulting Engineers use the solution to create innovative, detailed design solutions quickly, from anywhere in the world. Donal Gallery, Technical Director, PUNCH Consulting Engineers says: “With Causeway, our engineers draw networks in SmartTools, export them to Flow, design the model and with the click of a mouse export sections AutoCAD. Additionally, cloud licensing means our engineers can work from anywhere removing the need to be on-site”.

SmartTools is a set of highly innovative software tools for infrastructure design that runs in standard AutoCAD and its vertical products such as Civil 3D. The solution provides surface elevation data as spot levels and profiles to other applications in the SmartTools range seamlessly working across multiple surfaces, including complex overlapping grade-separated surface.

Graphical drawings in AutoCAD or Civil 3D are transformed into a compatible drainage network, removing the unnecessary time consuming and error-strewn step to re-trace drawings. The design is automatically generated as longsections, schedules, and annotated plan drawing production. Engineers can load or create a full 3D BIM model that includes thickness, bedding, surround material, trench thickness etc., to provide a complete model of quantities and costs and reliable clash detection.

The ‘Software Solution of the Year’ award highlights how Causeway’s solutions enable companies to drive efficiency gains by automating the design process and streamlining workflows, removing the need to manually transfer designs between packages, increasing productivity and reducing risk at the same time.

Within the water industry, Causeway has collaborated with British Water, CIRIA and Susdrain to promote sustainable drainage systems using SmartTools. Partnerships with FP McCann, ACO Technologies, Hydro International, and Eliquo Hydrok have resulted in the ability for Causeway’s customers to embed in-house software in Flow and Smart Tools driving even greater productivity and commercial efficiency in the design phase of the construction lifecycle.

Causeway faces fierce competition in both categories which will be judged live during the NCE TechFest festival on Thursday 26th September at The Brewery in London. The construction technology company will compete against:

• Bentley Systems

• FCC Construccion

• Marsh Industries

• Southern Water

• EAVE

• Hilti PROFIS Engineering Suite

• IrisVR

• Kreo

• SenSat

• ShapeDo
