Northern Ireland-based civil and structural engineering consultancy Gilligan has improved and future-proofed its drainage design processes by adopting Causeway Flow, the powerful end-to-end drainage design solution.
Belfast-based Gilligan provides engineering consultancy services to projects in a wide range of sectors from education and public buildings to residential and commercial developments. Relying on effective but time consuming processes for drainage design, the business was searching for a solution that would allow it to streamline its work and ensure compliance with all current requirements.
Northern Ireland Water (NI Water), the approving authority for drainage designs in Northern Ireland, was in the process of updating its requirements for drainage submissions. The new guidance stated that all drainage designs and calculations submitted for approval must be completed using a software solution rather than spreadsheets or manual processes.
To ensure the most suitable software solution was chosen, Gilligan investigated a range of drainage design options. Following a discussion with the Causeway team, which included a demonstration of the software’s capabilities, Causeway Flow was selected.
Gilligan is among a number of construction businesses from Northern Ireland, as well as the Republic of Ireland, who have recently upgraded to this next-generation drainage design solution. This includes Hoy Dorman, TOBIN Consulting Engineers and J.A.Gorman.
In fact, in the first quarter of 2023, a record-breaking number of businesses across the UK and Ireland have adopted Causeway Flow, often as an alternative to now unsupported legacy drainage design solutions.
Causeway Flow is a powerful hydraulic modelling solution for the design of compliant and cost-effective drainage networks. It also fully supports Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) design and, crucially, allows modelling that is accurate to real-world conditions using a state-of-the-art hydraulic engine. In addition, following the latest software update, Causeway Flow now also supports the newly released FEH22 rainfall modelling.
Dr. Netsanet Mebrate, Product Owner for Causeway Flow at Causeway, said: “We are thrilled to have Gilligan join our growing list of Irish and Northern Irish customers that are leveraging Causeway Flow’s advanced, future-proof drainage design features. By adopting the latest technology, Gilligan is demonstrating its commitment to providing top-quality services to its clients. We are excited to support them on this journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact Causeway Flow will have on the business.”
